Day 29: Surprise Gift

I am thankful for...
for the surprise gift within me.
"Each of you has been blessed with one of God's many wonderful
gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well."
1 Peter 4:10, CEV
Before I was formed, God knew me! I've pondered that verse so many times and it still awestruck me... to think that before I was ever thought of, ever planned to be, God KNEW me - and He fashioned me for a specific purpose and gave me the gift to fulfill it.  Now all I have to do is open it.

It is the same with you... when God formed you, He made sure that every part of you was perfect to complete the purpose He has called you for.  And then He did something amazing, He put the perfect gift within you to complete that purpose - now all you have to do is open it.

How do you open this gift? A question I've pondered so many times and then realized, I open my gift every time I do the things that bring glory to my Father in Heaven and in return fill me with joy! That's right! It is as easy as that... think about it this way, let's look at this verse:

"The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed."
Proverbs 11:25, NLT
How awesome is that?! When you refresh others, you yourself will be refreshed - and then there is a promise tied to this - "the generous will prosper" - You will prosper! When you use your gift, that gift, that God gave you, whether it is hospitality or maybe you are really good at talking with people to share about the love of God or maybe you're an evangelist or maybe you are a great teacher to kids - whatever that gift is, when you use it, you refresh others (bringing glory to God) and in return you are refreshed (blessed with joy).

I am so thankful for the gift that God planted within me.  He definitely made me unique, just like He did with you.

God blessed me with:
  • Creativity
  • Passion
  • Vision
  • Organization
  • Love for Dance
  • Talent
  • How to train others
  • Leadership
  • Teacher
What gift did God bless you with? I would love for you to share in a comment!

I hope this Princess Letter blesses you, like it did me, when I read it:

My Princess...
You are my Gifted One.
I have given you the gift of eternal life, but My giving
does not stop there.  Inside of you is a supernatural
surprise - a gift that is waiting to be unwrapped... by YOU.

Yes, it's there.  It's hidden behind dreams waiting to be pursued.
Swallowed up by daily distractions and
drowned by disappointments.

Let Me help you clear out the clutter and find
your gift.  You'll find it in that place in life that brings
you the greatest joy, that place where your soul
longs to be, that work your hands love to do.

But this gift that I've given to you is not just for you.
I have blessed you to be a blessing to others.
When you find your gift, I will take it and
multiply it beyond what you could ever imagine.
So ask Me, and I will help you open your gift
so that you can give it away to the world -
not to impress - but to bless.

Love,
Your King and the Giver
of every good and perfect gift

Day 22: Waiting on my King!

I am thankful to...
Wait on my King!

"But those who wait on the Lord will find new strength.  They will fly high on wings like eagles.  They will run and not grow weary.  They will walk and not faint."  Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Today's challenge is about being thankful right where you are.  It is SO easy to get caught up in the... BUT God, I "want"... or BUT God, I "need"... and at times we can be just like our little children that burn the parents' ears with the I wants and the I needs with Our Heavenly Father...

I am so thankful where God has placed me right now.  I am a wife, a mother, a homemaker, an employee, and a teacher.  And for all these things I am so thankful.  I get to hear my little mister sing songs he's heard me sing to him at the top of his lungs while he's winding down to go to sleep... hear him quote Scriptures I've taught to him to his daddy... hear him quote the prayer we do every day before we start school to his trains... and for those things they make me so thankful, but it also refreshes me and makes my heart jump with joy!

The fleshly nature spoke of in Romans says that we fail to do good.  Though we desire to do what is right, we still choose to do the other - an endless battle within ourselves...

I read that during a Bible study I was going through and at first I thought I read it wrong and had to go back and read it again... and again.. and again... it bothered me at first, so I just kept reading it and then asking God for revelation.

You can look at this verse alongside your attitude of gratitude...
Do you give thanks for ALL things or only when things make you happy for the moment? Do you thank God for the hard trials or only when things are good? Do you give thanks when the child(ren) are pushing that last nerve or only when they behave?

I had to take a step back and look at my life in a different perspective... and I asked God to give me His eyes to see what my life looked like to Him.  I was amazed, astonished, blessed, joyful, and overwhelmed all at the same time from what I got to see...  and I have a new perspective on my role and why God has me where I am RIGHT now!

I am in a growing phase and God, thank You for this road You have placed my family on right now... at times it is very difficult and at times the emotions get the best of us and we don't always do what we would "like" to do... but this path is to shape us, mold us, and grow us... and I can't wait to see what lies ahead of us...

Day 17: Laundry

I am thankful for...
LAUNDRY!!!

Yes, you did read that right.  I am thankful for ALL the laundry that I have to do.  You are probably thinking, "are you crazy?!" or "come over to my house!" Well, after the following scenarios you too just might be thankful for the laundry in your house:

  • We went to the gas station and were stopped by a couple before we got to ready to leave.  They asked us for ONLY 2 gallons of gas to put in their truck, so they could stay WARM through the night.  My heart instantly broke because I realized they were living in their truck, nothing with them, but the clothes on their back and a truck to stay in.  We gave them more gas than they asked for...
  • A couple on the street corner, young couple at that, and the girl is pregnant.  We've seen them a few times before but I noticed they were in the same clothes.  My husband ran into them one night when he was picking up food for us at KFC - all they asked for was $1.  My husband didn't have any cash on him, so he told them to order anything they wanted... and he had the opportunity to talk with them and share about Jesus... when he got ready to leave, my husband checked his wallet and sure enough a dollar was there, so he gave it to them along with the food they ordered...
  • Kids starving in the streets of Jamaica are lucky to even have clothes on their back, they might just be wearing a rag to resemble clothing... to wash their clothes, they go to a dirty river and wash it with soap on a board - and this is a special occasion, not daily, for it depends on if they have money for soap...

I don't know about you, but I'm blessed and so is my family! I have clothes on my back AND in my drawers - a variety of them, so I don't get bored.  I am SO thankful for the laundry that I GET to do, not that I HAVE to do it, but I GET the privilege of doing it because God has blessed my family and me with a gazillion clothes to wear... and though at times I get holes in a new pair of jeans or my favorite shirt seems to start become "worn" to my standard... I think of the above scenarios and realize I'm blessed!

Thank You, God, for the laundry that I get to do... the money to pay for the water, the machine that helps make the process easier, and the privilege of having much!

Day 12: In the Sun

Thank You, God for...
basking in the sunshine!
After a couple of days of our first snow flurries and the first tastes of winter and knowing it is just around the corner... today brought sunshine and warmer weather.  I just love it when the sun is out! Just sitting in the sun for 5 minutes, brightens my day, refreshes me, makes me energized, and brings joy to the soul!!!

It reminds me of being in the presence of My King!  You know, those moments when you KNOW you are the presence of Jesus, and you feel refreshed, energized, happy, joyful, and full of love - you just don't want to leave that presence.
Then you have those days of clouds and though you "know" the sun is still shining - because obviously if it was summer, you might find that if you don't wear sunscreen you can get burnt.  It doesn't always feel warm, the sun isn't there to brighten the day, and though the rays reach you it still doesn't energize you like being in direct sunlight...

Ever had those days where you feel like storm clouds have entered in and though you "know" Your King is there with you -- it still feels like He is at a distance and the storm clouds overtake you.  But how comforting it is to know that His "rays" reach out to us, even when we don't "feel" Him... they can reach out to us so much, it's like having sunburn - we didn't feel like He was around us, but He left a sign that He was! Now, I'm not saying He leaves us pain - His presence is always there, just like the sunshine - even on those days when the storm clouds or rain clouds roll in - that's comforting!

It just reminds me that when those storm/rain clouds roll in, those moments of testing and tribulation is when "I" need to press in the MOST! My King is already there... but even if I don't "feel" like He is or if I don't "think" He is... that's when I have to press in and not let the storm/rain clouds overtake me, so I can past them and into the direct rays of the sunshine where I find my joy, my strength, my refreshing, my love... but it requires "me" to push in!

Thank You, God for the direct rays of sunshine and reminder it's like being in the presence of My King!

Day 10: Thank You, God, for yummy snacks!

Thank You, God, for...
Yummy Snacks!!!

You know you love to snack!!! I know I do, and so does my 3 year old little guy.  Some of our favorite snacks are popcorn, oreo cookies, fruit snacks, fruit and cheese, ham rolls, marshmallows, etc...

My son has been watching me with this thankfulness challenge and I said outloud today, "Thank You, God for..." and he said "yummy snacks"!!! I couldn't agree more. :)

So, we went into the kitchen, baked some yummy muffins and enjoyed a snack with one another on the living room floor curled up in a blanket with glasses of milk, while watching Finding Nemo.

I am so thankful for the moment my son and I got to share with each other... and for yummy snacks!

Day 9: Home Maker

I am thankful because...
I have a place to call home.

Jesus is preparing a place for me in Heaven! I can just imagine that Jesus is building a place that fits who I am, complete with an ocean, rainforest, and my roof is a skylight to look right into my Daddy's eyes!

My Prince, Jesus, I'm so thankful that you are preparing my home in Heaven... and I'm so thankful that You have provided a home for me here on earth.  With many in the area losing their homes left and right, seeing more and more people on the streets... I'm blessed to be able to walk into a house to call "home", to lounge on a couch, to sit at a table and eat dinner, to curl up in a warm bed and sleep with pillows.

Thank You for taking care of us!

Day 8: An Ordained Life

I'm thankful because...
God has ordained my life.

An ordained life? Yes! I know can be hard to grasp, but I'm so thankful God has ordained my foot steps in life.  Why am I thankful for that? Because though He orchestrates my life, it lets me know...

(1) I do not have to live stressed out!
Yes! I can be stress free! Why? Because I don't have to TRY to make my days in my life "work" - God has already set the path before me, I just have to walk it!

(2) God is with me ALWAYS!
Since God has ordained my life and He has made the path for me to walk on - that also means that He is with me ALWAYS! Every where I go, He is with me.  He is there to help when I fall.  He is there to wipe my tears when I'm sad.  He is there to hug me when I feel alone.  Every step of the way in my life, God is there with me.

(3) God makes sure that I'm completing the purpose He put me here for.
God has a purpose for me! And He ordained my life, so that all the gifts within me would bring me enjoyment and bless others.  Whatever His purpose for me is - it will be accomplished!

Thank You, God, for blessing my days, for providing the path for me each day, and ordaining my foot steps to accomplish Your Work!

Day 7: My Planner

I am thankful because...
my King takes my plans and turns them into more than I can imagine!
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
~Proverbs 16:3

I don't know about you, but I'm a planner! I have a notebook that is divided out by topics and I have a daily task list with goals and subgoals and even an hour by hour schedule... your probably thinking, WOW, she's organized! But... no matter how much time I put into doing that so-called daily task list, I've realized that if I don't commit what "I" have planned for a day to God, about NONE of it gets done! (So, yes, probably pointless to do in the first place... oh well, I had good intentions, right?!)

I stumbled across this verse in Proverbs and I decided that when I sat down to do my daily task list, I would commit it to God! And yah know what?! Every time I do this, my plans become more than what I expected AND my days are stress free... sometimes everything gets done on the list, other times, God changes things up and what I thought I would do turned out to be greater!  His intervention is WAY better than any plan I could come up with. :)
I challenge you to commit your plans to God!

Thank You, God, that You are my King and my Planner!!!

=================================================

My Princess...
     Give me your plans

I know you have an idea in your head on how everything should unfold in your life.  Even today you have an agenda.  Because I love you, I need you to give Me back all your plans for today and for all your tomorrows.  If you let Me have your day, I can then intervene with something special.  My intervention will give you more joy in your journey than your good intentions.  I know all that your heart longs for, and I want to do more for you than you could ever do for yourself.  So give Me a chance to change your agenda from ordinary to extraordinary, because that's the kind of life I've destined you to live, My beloved.

Love,
Your King and your Planner

Day 6: Prosperity Promise

I am thankful because...
God promises to make me prosperous.

Have you ever looked up the word "prosper" in the Bible? It's amazing how many Scriptures of promise there are on this.

I truly believe my favorite one is this:

"I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food." Psalm 132:15

To me this verse is fitting for the area that I live in...
  • Homeless shelters actually have reached max limits
  • People losing homes left and right
  • Jobs are few and far between
  • Crime increasing all around
Now some people might think "why do you live there?!" but I don't ask that question to myself, instead I've come to realize that God is growing me through this time and place of where I am at.  I am seeing God provide for my family and I on a daily basis... and God has even given us opportunities to share with those less fortunate around us.  The stories I have heard are heart breaking... but it has been an honor to share the love of Jesus with these people.

I am standing on Psalm 132:15 for my city and my household will be the light house in our neighborhood and in our city for those that need the love of Jesus in their lives.  My household will be a family on our knees for this city and change will take place, even if it is one house/person at a time.

Thank You, God, that promise to bless my city and make it prosper! Not one person will go without!

Will you be on your knees for your city?

Day 5: My Provider

I am thankful because...
my God provides for all my needs.
Ever found yourself worrying about any of the following:
  • How will we get the car fixed?
  • Great! The basement leaks! How do I afford to fix it?
  • Ugh! New clothes needed already?!?!
  • I'm short $200 every month... what will I do?
  • Will I have enough gas for this week?
I have said ALL of those statements above at least a few times in the past month or so.

I have come to notice that if I begin to "worry" about something - my husband will take it to the next level.  And then that just escalates things and we will literally fight over nothing, it's quite hilarious, now that I think about it.

So, I started digging into Matthew 6:25-34 and just about every verse would say "DO NOT WORRY!!!" Talk about a slap in the face! But yet, I'd sit there and be thinking about all those things that have to get fixed or that need to be bought or money that is needed and the list would go for miles... and so I would have to read the passage over again AND again AND again AND again... just hoping that if I did, I could actually "not" worry!

Did it work? I wish I could say it was like an instantaneous life changing moment - but no! But, as I kept reading the passage, the chaotic thoughts began to seem further away, like in a distance and it was like it stilled me enough to hear the whisper of God telling me "IT'S OK!!! I HAVE IT UNDER CONTROL!"  That's when I had that life changing moment and the passage become 100% more clear to me...

I truly don't have to worry because God is in control! Yes, it truly did take me about 10 times of reading that passage to realize this... but that's OK, I got it!

God is SO in control.  If He can make a plant grow, by providing rain when it needs water or sunshine to make it bloom... OR if He can provide everything needed to the birds of the air... and ALL of these things is what He created... and here I am, a creation His in HIS IMAGE - how much more does He care for me???

He cares so much that He sent His ONLY Son to die for me!
He cares so much that He provides ONLY the best for me!
He cares so much that He promises I will not beg for bread!
He cares so much that He wants me to have His riches in heaven!

I have to say, that when I started to commit all of my worries to Him... and literally, I committed them, I wrote them down on index cards and casted them into a "worry box".  Then I sought out the Scriptures of promise that is in the Bible to cancel my worry with FAITH!

Now, God has provided for us...
  • Clothing is bought.
  • One car fixed.
  • $200 appears every month.
  • There is always enough gas, even when the money isn't there.
Is God done? NO! He has just begun! And my new found faith strength to cancel out the worries has helped all around... one less stress for the husband = happier home!

God, thank You, for providing for ALL our needs on a daily basis!

Day 4: Provision of Rest

I am thankful because...
I can rest in my Daddy's arms!
“Rest” Defined:

  1. To cease from action

The word rest means to cease from labor or exertion.  Applying that to God’s rest, it means no more self-effort – no more trying to please God by your fleshly works.  Rest involves ceasing from legalistic activity/religious behavior; we rest in free grace.

  1. To be free from worry

Some people are never at peace because they’re always bothered about something.  To rest means to be free from whatever disturbs you, or causes you to worry.  It means in this sense to be quiet, still, peaceful, and free from guilt.  To enter God’s rest means to be a peace with God – to possess the perfect peace that God gives.  It means to be free from guilt, because our sin is forgiven.

  1. To be settled

God’s rest is the kind of rest where a man is established in Christ, and does not run from religion to religion or philosophy to philosophy or theology to theology, etc.  This is a man that is NOT blown about by every wind of doctrine, but is rooted and grounded in the truth of Jesus Christ!

  1. To be secure

To enter God’s rest is to be secure, having absolute trust and confidence in God’s care for you.

  1. To have something to lean on

To enter God’s rest means that you can lean on Him.  You can rely on God for support, that you can trust Him to supply ALL your needs.

The Bible speaks of rest in the millennial kingdom and rest for eternity in heaven.  That’s what God is promising and that’s what He calls rest.

God’s promise of rest still stands “today” – Hebrews 4:1
We can paraphrase it this way: God makes it possible for us to enter His rest, so we need to make sure that we accept His offer.  If we do not keep our faith in Him, we will fail to enter.

Let’s look at examples throughout the Bible of Rest:
  1. Genesis 2:2 – Creation
God is still at rest and He wants us to join Him!

  1. Children of Israel
Do not be like our ancestors and try the patience of the Lord.  Fear unbelief and press into Jesus, there is more for us and He wants us to believe in His promises!

  1. Judges - Othniel
Are you called to be the next deliverer?

How do we enter into God’s Rest?

1.      Come
Matthew 11:28
The invitation is “COME TO ME”, and that means a choice is made to leave sin, walk away from our past mistakes and come to Jesus.  You cannot read about Jesus with an honest heart without being motivated to come to Him.  Now you may read about Him merely out of some academic interests, or intellectual curiosity.  The knowledge you gain from that kind of study may never result in any conversion or salvation.  But when you open your mind – when your heart is sincere – when you know you need something better in life, and read about Christ – you are motivated to change your direction, give up the sin in your life and Come to Him!

“Come unto met” literally means Jesus has His hand out waiting for us to press into Him, so we can follow His commands.  He wants us to relinquish control, so we may enter God’s rest. (Ex. – Storm & Disciples)

Mark 4:35-41   “Principle of Resting & Caring”
a.    We care – He rests.  (God will allow us to mess up our situation.)
b.    He cares – We rest. (When we give up control over the situation and give it to God, we will find peace.)

2.      Faith
Faith is the Doorway into God’s Rest.
Hebrews 4:3 tells us the destiny of those who exercise faith and those who don’t.  The part says, “those who believe enter into rest”.  It doesn’t say we are on the way to rest; it states we are in it.  Every Christian is in God’s Rest! This is another way of saying we are saved and fully believe it in our hearts!

Now those who fail to exercise faith, God says, “In my anger I took an oath: They will never enter my place of rest.” This is God’s attitude towards those who do not exercise faith.  To fail to believe the truth is to forfeit God’s rest for all eternity.

For example, Adam and Eve while in the Garden of Eden were in God’s Rest.  When they believed the lies of Satan they forfeited their time in God’s Rest because they did not trust in Him.  Now, throughout the entire Bible God has left the doorway open for us to enter through.  Romans ( ) says, there is a remnant He has chosen.  There is a remnant of people that will find this doorway and come into God’s Rest, where He desires for us to be.

Since Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, God wants to see us restored to His Rest.  (Add info on brazen alter stuff…)

You cannot enter rest without coming to meet Jesus and openly accepting Him, believing that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light.  This also means we cannot be double-minded, meaning we are riding the fence.  We have one foot one side and one foot on the other.  This is called riding the fence and you will get splinters in your tooshie! Not just that, James 1:6-8 states we will not receive from God! You will not enter His Rest if you waver back and forth, you have to press fully into Him, trusting completely that all things work out for your good and His Glory!

3.      Death
Romans 7:14-25
Within ourselves we have a battle between the spirit man and the flesh man.  Picture it like a devil on your shoulder representing the flesh and an angel on the other representing the spirit man.  They are always in conflict of each other.  But we were born a sinner, we don’t sin because we want to, but because it is our “nature”, our heredity.

4.      Take
Matthew 11:29
We cannot have the promised rest Jesus wants us to have if we do not do what He wants us to do! Those under the load of sin need to come to Christ, take His yoke, learn of Him and find rest.

In the book of Acts you can read beginning in Chapter 2 about people who did this.  Beginning on the Day of Pentecost we read this: The apostles received the Holy Spirit and began in speaking in tongues.  Those around thought they were drunk.  Peter stood up and said “we are not drunk, for it is only the third hour” then prophesied to the people and they asked “what do we do now?” Peter told them “Repent and Get Baptized”.  The people DID just that.  And after baptism it says they continued steadfastly in the ways of Christ.  What were they doing? They were coming to Jesus, taking His yoke, learning of Him and finding rest for their souls.  Every other case of conversion in the book of Acts is the same!

Consider “taking the yoke”.  This is not about getting rid of one load in exchange for another load; that is not the idea! The yoke is SUBMISSION AND GUIDANCE.  As we submit to Jesus, we are guided in exactly the path and the work that right before God! You’ve got to get in the “hear” and “now” – meaning when Jesus tells you to do something you respond with an action, not a question and not doubting.  When Jesus was on the earth, He did ONLY what the Father commanded Him.  As Christians, we are Christ-like, we must follow the same thing, heeding only what Jesus commands us to do, for we are the vessel that needs to be open for Him to pour into, so He ministry can work through you! This is His yoke – His ministry working through you!

5.      Learn
James 1:3-4; Matthew 7:24-27
Tests and trials arise in our lives for a reason.  A test is something we may not always pass, but develops our character and allows us to learn from mistakes.  A trial is something we will pass, for the tests have prepared us for the trial.  God does not give unto us more than we can handle, He knows when we are ready for the trial – because He’s already tested us!
Tests are nothing more than being refined in the fire.  When God tests us, He is basically saying “will you seek Me out for the answer or will you not?”  So many of us run to wrong places.  We are constantly turning to everyone else, but never turn to God.  Here’s something to learn, “He is God, I am not”.  Say that out loud, “He is God and I am not”.  The one thing many of us struggle with is when God tests us, many of us want to run to everyone around, whether it’s the person that does our nails, the cashier in a checkout line, our hairstylist, or whoever that just might of asked “how are you?” and we dump on them hoping for an answer.  I personally believe we break God’s heart when we do this.  God puts a test on your life for YOU, not anyone else, they are personal.  He wants you to RUN to HIM with your tears, with your thoughts, with your anger, with your problems, etc.  He’s your Daddy in Heaven that can help you through ANYTHING and yet we still run to everyone else for advice.  We have to LEARN from HIM! That is what allows us to enter into God’s rest.  It’s not going to be from someone else.  Every answer is in God’s Word and if you would just pick it up and READ it, you’d find that everything you need in life is in this Book.  Go to Him in prayer.

Here’s an example: Growing up in my home I had a dad who didn’t receive Jesus as his Savior until I believe I was 4 or 5 years old.  My mother is a Christian.  When I saw hard times in my house, there is one thing I learned from my mother, turn to a prayer closet! Every time there was a decision to be made, I saw my mother get her on knees.  Every time we were to make a move, I saw my mother get on her knees.  Every time finances started to come to a halt, I saw my mother get on her knees.  Every time the sickness entered the home, I saw my mother get on her knees.  Every time my mom would worry, I saw my mother get on her knees.  I never saw my mom run around to everyone else looking for an answer, she went straight to God who has ALL answers, and every time she did, God brought peace into the home and blessed our family.  As I saw that growing up, I’ve been able to use that in my own life.  When I miscarried in January, that was a trial in my life.  I can’t tell you how many days/nights I cried on the floor in the room of our townhouse that was going to be our nursery.  I closed the doors to people around me, not because I wanted to seem rude, but because I wanted to cry out God.  And when I cried out to God, that’s when God started pouring into me and I started learning of Him.  He allowed me to lean on Him for strength and He sent His Spirit to comfort me.  No one knows better than God Himself about what I am going through.  Why? Because Jesus suffered too! Not just that the Spirit lives within me, it is A PART of me, it shares in everything I feel, think, and act.  He understands better than anyone.  And when I did that, God did something amazing for me… He gave me a vision and I saw my baby in His loving arms, a beautiful baby boy.  That put my soul at rest and allowed me to refocus and move forward, and God started teaching me new things about pregnancy.

We have to turn to HIM, He wants to be the source for your answers! If I would have turned to everyone else around me, I would have missed out on what God had for me.  He wants to comfort you.  He wants to teach you.  Let HIM!  I ended up buying a Precious Moments figurine of a girl on the telephone crying and it says “Tell it to Jesus”.  That is my reminder when I feel the urge to pick up the phone and dump on someone, I need to go to my prayer closet and get on my knees and telephone God and dump on Him.  He has everything I need to comfort me and teach me where to go, what to do, or to handle the situation.

So here’s my next thing for you to do, turn to your neighbor and say “He is God and you are not!” We need to learn from our Heavenly Father, the more we do, we can enter God’s Rest freely.

6.      Find
Matthew 7:7-8
It says “Seek and You will find”.  We will find God’s Rest, IF we take all  the steps that lead into God’s Rest.  I picture it like this, the doorway of Faith is partially open and there in the doorway is Jesus, like He’s peeking around the corner just to glimpse of your face (Song of Solomon…).  He wants you to see Him, so He reaches out His hand and says “Come to Me”.  It takes faith to grab hold of His hand and let Him alter everything of your nature and who you are to be what He has called you to be.

Day 3 - No Disappointment

I am thankful because...
I have a God that does NOT disappoint me.

And this hope will not lead to disappointment.  For we know how dearly God loves us, because He has given us the Holy Spirit to fills our hearts with love. ~ Romans 5:5

Ever experienced disappointment? It's not a picnic, nor a party... actually, many times it leaves us hurt, empty and feeling alone.  Sometime we, as women, will even question our self-worth when we are disappointed.  If we are married, we might even let that "D" word enter our minds when we've been disappointed by our husbands more times than we can count on our hands.

I am SO glad that I have come to learn that people WILL disappoint me! Why? Because we are human! Actually, I disappoint people too... do I mean to? No. Do I want to? No. Actually, I'm a person that if I could please everyone, I would try - but I gave up on that awhile back when God started showing me it wasn't important for me to win the approval of others.  It wasn't important for me to try to gain encouragement from others.  It wasn't important for me to gain the love I desired from my husband.  Why? Because God pointed me to Romans 5:5... basically, God said LOOK TO ME! I will NOT disappoint you! Bring all of my hopes to Him and watch Him make them happen!!!

Well, I am SOOOO thankful that I turned to Him with my hopes...
  • My husband and I were both told we would never have kids... we have a beautiful son who is 3 years old and very strong and healthy.  God intervened!
  • My husband and I struggled in the first 5 years of our marriage that divorce seemed like an answer... we ended up renewing our vows for 5th anniversary to wipe the slate the clean and start over fresh.  God intervened and is STILL the glue that holds us together!
  • My husband got laid off from his job and was pushing over 2 years on unemployment with the state wanting to cut off pay... just before pay was cut off, God provided him a job through the company I was at.  God intervened!
  • I was working full-time and tested the waters to see if a part-time job with the right pay would open up... the perfect job came into alignment and I get to be home with my son more.  God intervened!

Give your hopes to God - He will NEVER disappoint you!!!

Do I still have high hopes... YES! And all those hopes are in God's hands, I'm just waiting for God to intervene.

Thank You, God, that you never disappoint me and always intervene when hope seems impossible.

Day 2: The Healing Source

I am Thankful for...
a God that heals immediately!
My son gets out of his bath last night and is complaining that his abdomen hurts.  Feel the area and it's hard as a rock! My husband's first instinct - freak out! My first reaction, I grabbed my son's hands and asked him do you believe Jesus can heal you? He said yes.  I prayed for him that God would relieve the pain, cause the swelling to go down, and if there was a foreign entity to make it dissolve.

By the time I got his pajamas on, gave good night kisses to daddy, tucked him bed -- the pain was gone and the hard spot was soft again.  My son turned to me, smiled, and said "the pain is gone, Jesus healed me!"  I smiled back at him and said "Praise the Lord!"
Thank You, God, for being the Master Physician in my family's life!!!

Day 1 - I am thankful for...

I am thankful for...
  • a measure of faith provided by God, that is growing on a daily basis
For I say, through the grace that was given me, to every man who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think reasonably, as God has apportioned to each person a measure of faith. ~Romans 12:3

God has given me a measure of faith! This isn't something that I did on my own, no, it was something God gave me since birth.  I have a measure of faith! And I am thankful that my parents helped to grow this faith within me, so that when I left home, I knew how to stand on my own two feet with the Sword in one hand and the Shield in the other.  They taught me how to wield away the fiery darts of the devil and how to listen to the voice of wisdom.

I definitely have not arrived and there are times I wish my faith was stronger -- but I am so thankful it is growing each and every day, so I can face the trials and storms that are yet to come.
