Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year! It's that time of the year when everyone says all their resolutions... to lose weight, to clean up the house, to whatever it is... well, my new year's resolutions are completely different because (1) they aren't generic, (2) they aren't meant to be broken, and (3) I really will strive to do these each and every day.

As a mom and a wife I really want to be that Proverbs 31 woman, where my son will honor me, and my husband will be proud. My promises for this year and every year to follow are:

I will put my Bible before the television, the radio, the telephone, and even before good Christian books, for my child will know my priorities by the way they see me spend my free time.

I will make my prayer requests known before God and my child, enlisting their help in the process and informing them of the outcome, for letting him/her help when I petition our Lord will he/she learn of aliving God who still answers prayer.

When times of crisis, conflict or confusion arise, I will hit my knees before I hit the phone knowing that by my example my child will discover that although friends are important, God alone is the one who holds the solution to life's every problem.

When bad things happen, I'll neither grumble nor complain, but will instead help my child see that in the scope of our lives even the bad times are allowed for a reason, for by this my child will learn quiet trust in their Maker.

When normal childhood mishaps occur, I will remember that although difficult, it is still easier to remove grape juice from off-white carpet than to erase harsh and unloving words hurled at a child whose chubby little fingers have failed him/her, for by this my child will see a God who understands when our best efforts fall short.

When my child has witnessed something ugly in me - unkind words, an angry temper, "harmless" gossip, biting sarcasm or even my infamous "girl pout" when things don't go my way - I will confess it as sin before him/her seeking their forgivenss, for by this my child will develop the much needed habit of wiping their spiritual slate clean before God and man.

I will teach my child the importance of cleanliness and order while at the same time remain sensitive to the fact that a skinned knee or hurt feeling is more cruicial than a spotless floor or uncluttered counter, for by this my child will learn to value people above things.

I will make time for the lonely, the sick, the elderly, the difficult to love, and will bring my child along, for with each visit, each ride to the doctor, each raked lawn or washed window my child will have the opportunity to serve Jesus by serving the "least of these".

I will make our home a haven of rest and retreat from the outside world and a welcomed place for my child's friends, for with each impromptu backyard soccer game, each video viewed on a rainy day, each cup of hot cocoa or chocolate chip cookie, my child will have the opportunity to practice the art of Christian hospitality thereby learning to share all God has given them.

I will by my actions and my speech let my child see a mom love their dad, for by this my child will sense family stability at a time when marriages all around them are crumbling.

I will not require of my child obedience, honesty, patience or kindness without first being willing to submit to the same rules whether in speed limit, in miscounted change from the grocery store or when answering a toddler for the fourteeth time, for by this my child will see a mother who is also learning and not a perfect parent to whom they'll never measure up.

In all things I will remember that more is caught than is taught, for I am the first Bible my child will ever read.

Day 17: Be Forgiving

Forgiveness... something that needs to be done, yet at times can be so hard to do.  BUT it's a desire within all of us to have "forgiveness".  But there is something that we as women need to do to help this in our husband's life.  When our husbands offend us or hurt us, we need to make it known to him.  Stuffing it inside, saying hurtful words back, and NEVER telling him directly that he hurt you will not lead to forgiveness.  We must make it known to him the he hurt us, to receive forgiveness.  But I heard a great way for married couples to learn to fight.  A pastor stated, "fight naked"! Interesting concept, but if you actually adapt this lifestyle, things are forgiven quickly and the fight soon no longer matters.... So today we pray that our husbands would Be Forgiving!

Praise

Day 8: Wives in Prayer for our Husbands to Be Content

The Bible requires us to be content in ALL situations.  I can honestly state that is a hard thing to do.  It's even harder when you know the promises of God and yet you wonder why they haven't come to pass yet... you can blame it on yourself, you can even blame God... but yet, I sit here and realize that God sometimes allow us to come to a place that is "hard", so we can be content to just let God work and realize that God owes us nothing, but we owe Him everything - we have to just move out of the way and stop trying so hard to stay in control... in other words, give the steering wheel over to God and just rest in this season by preparing for rain because the blessings are coming.

Praise
He is a God of Blessing!!! Read Numbers 6:24-26, Psalm 29:11, Psalm 66:20, 1 Chronicles 4:10, Matthew 7:9-11, James 1:17 and Ephesians 1:3.

1 Timothy 6:6
Lord, it is profitable for __________ when he can be found to have godliness accompanied with contentment throughout his life, in whatever situation he faces.  I pray he would be an example of contentment to a watching world.

Day 5: God Control My Husband's Anger and Temper

Have you ever noticed that when your husband loses his temper and the anger rages the whole house just seems to become one mess of chaos? We as wives, need to keep our own emotions in check... I know it's not easy, but it's something we also must learn to do, to not aggravate our husbands that they lose their temper, otherwise we no longer make our home a haven, but instead of place of chaos and everyone feels it - it's no picnic.  So, our focus today is to pray that God would control our husband's anger and temper, for if it starts in the head of the house, it will spread down the totem pole. :)

Day 4: God, You are Our Rescuer - Take my husband's Anxieties!!!

God's Word tells us: "Do not worry about anything; instead PRAY about everything." Philippians 4:6  It also tells us "do not be anxious for nothing"! But we all deal with worry and anxieties.  And have you ever noticed that if we, as wives, become worried or anxious, we actually INCREASE these very things in our husbands? Think about it! God, has specifically called the husband to be the provider in the home, and when things get hard, the husband internalizes this on himself.  But when we as wives stress, worry, become anxious and verbalize this... we actually make it that much harder on our husbands and can defeat them more than they already are.   Instead we need to do what the Word of God says, we need to PRAY - get on our knees and tell it all to God, but let me give you a prayer to say over the anxious husband completely lined in Scripture to bring peace from God....

Praise
God is our Rescuer!!! Read Psalm 40:17, Psalm 50:15, Psalm 62:1-2, Psalm 91:1-4, Psalm 91:7-11, Proverbs 20:22 and Daniel 6:27.

Confession
This a time of examining our hearts before the Lord - confess anything that needs to be covered in the blood of Jesus, to not hinder your prayer.

Thanksgiving
Take this time to thank God for answered prayer or for what He is doing in your life, your husband's life, your marriage, or your family.

Intercession
Pray the below by inserting your husband's name in the blank spaces...

Psalm 94:19
Lord, in the multitude of ___________'s (anxious) thoughts within him, we pray that Your comforts would bring cheer and delight to his soul.  When _______ becomes ansious during his day, we pray he would not allow it to upset him but rather that he would discipline himself to quickly turn to You casting his care, stress and worries unto You for You care for him.

Philippians 4:6-7
Father I ask in Jesus name that __________ would not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make his wants know to You.  When he does, You promise to grant to ___________ peace (that tranquil state of soul peace) which transcends all understanding shall mount guard over __________'s heart and mind in Christ Jesus.  I pray the peace of Christ (of untroubled, undisturbed well-being) will be with ___________ always.
